You Are Beautiful, New Orleans

Part of my prize from Diet Coke included free passes on the Natchez steamboat tour. The Natchez achieved world renown when it won the Great Steamboat Race of 1870. Anyway it was an interesting experience if only because I had never been on a steamboat. Because the Mississippi River around New Orleans is quite industrialized, it was hardly picturesque. We passed barges and RORO ships, a Domino sugar plant (second largest in the world iirc), and an oil refinery. The building pictured here was also along the tour, in between downtown New Orleans and the now well-known Lower 9th Ward. I thought the graffiti’s statement provided an interesting contrast to its canvas and surroundings. I decided B&W would work best here because the lettering stood out so starkly and because the day was rainy and overcast.
